The fact that the metronome setting is given for the dotted quarter note indicates that each dotted quarter note is one beat. Besides, 216 bpm is far too fast to be practical. And does 6/8 change anything? Aside from the meter, no. For example, if the metronome mark were the same in a 3/8 or 9/8 or 12/8 piece, you would still be playing 72 bpm.
You've correctly identified the equivalent quarter note tempo of 150 bpm. Give this, it sounds to me like you intended to ask "how do I convert a dotted quarter note tempo of 100 bpm into a quarter note tempo?" The answer to this question is explained below by @StephenHazel.
I have a piece to read that gives the tempo of dotted quarter = 144. Does that mean it's at a quarter note = 96? The piece has a time signature of 12/8, and I'm guessing each eighth note is played ...
A dotted note can only borrow from its sibling, not its cousin, so a quarter note can span eights 1-2-3 or 2-3-4, but not 3-4-5. Your first example has the 3rd eighth note of the bar borrowing from its cousin, the 2nd eighth note.
A piece I'm reading in 3/4 has a BPM of 130 dotted quarters per minute. How would i do a conversion of dotted quarter BPM to quarter? I have no clue on how to convert different note length tempos t...
Surely, you wouldn’t start playing duplets (or sixteenths) if you encountered a dotted quarter note with one slash in a 6/8? The amount of slashes indicates the amount of flags the notes that should be played will have.
4 I know in 4/4 you are supposed to clearly indicate beats 1 and 3 in the measure, but does this apply to beat 2 as well? I am transcribing a song on piano and don't know which version of this measure is better/more readable: the one with a dotted quarter on beat 1.5 or a tied eighth+quarter on beat 1.5?
If a half note is worth two quarter notes, then how can you ever have one half note and a quarter note in the same bar in 3/4 time? In this case it's a dotted half note, meaning it gets three quarter notes worth of time.
I have a new piece of music, and it has a part where it is 12/8 with dotted quarter notes being at 128 bpm. I was wondering what the quarter note tempo would be. And one last thing would it be cou...
