GOP Rep. Doug LaMalfa dies at 65
The California Republican's sudden death and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation cut the GOP's fragile House majority to 218-213, with no margin for error.
In a move that rankled some Native Americans in Siskiyou County in 2018, LaMalfa introduced a bill to reestablish federal recognition of the Ruffey Rancheria, a tribe that was terminated by Congress in 1958, and allow the new group to claim reservation lands anywhere in the county. That bill was not approved.
